Mathematical and Numerical Aspects of Wave Propagation WAVES 2003 by Eliane Bécache,
Antoine Chaigne,
Grégoire Derveaux,
Patrick Joly
Book description This volume includes articles on the mathematical modeling and numerical simulation of various wave phenomena. For many years Waves 2003 and its five prior conferences have been an important forum for discussions on wave propagation. The topic is equally important for fundamental sciences, engineering, mathematics and, in particular, for industrial applications. Areas of specific interest are acoustics, electromagnetics, elasticity and related inverse and optimization problems. This book gives an extensive overview of recent developments in a very active field of scientific computing.
Hardcover: 931 pages.

Mathematical Foundations of Elasticity by Jerrold E. Marsden, Thomas J. R. Hughes
Book description This graduate-level study approaches mathematical foundations of 3-dimensional elasticity using modern differential geometry and functional analysis. It is directed to mathematicians, engineers and physicists who wish to see this classical subject in a modern setting with examples of newer mathematical contributions. The authors have incorporated relevant problems throughout the text. Jerrold E. Marsden is Professor of Mathematics, University of California, Berkeley. Thomas J. R. Hughes is Professor of Mechanical Engineering, Stanford University. 1983 edition.

Theoretical Acoustics by Philip M. Morse, K. Uno Ingard
Book description This volume, available for the first time in paperback, is a standard work on the physical aspects of acoustics. Starting from first principles, the authors have successfully produced a unified and thorough treatment of the subjects of generation, propagation, absorption, reflection, and scattering of compressional waves in fluids, progressing to such topics as moving sound sources, turbulence, and wave-induced vibration of structures. Material is included on viscous and thermal effects, on the acoustics of moving media, on plasma acoustics, on nonlinear effects, and on the interaction between light and sound. Problems, with answers in many cases, are given at the end of each chapter. They contain extensions to further applications, thus enhancing the reference value of the book. Many of the examples worked out in the text and in the problem solutions were not previously published. Anyone familiar with calculus and vector analysis should be able to understand the mathematical techniques used here.
