Benchtop Router Table: Woodworking Plan [DOWNLOAD:
PDF] (Digital) by the editors of by WOOD Magazine
(Designer)
Book description
Why this project belongs in your shop
You can put it together in a weekend for less than $100 plus the cost of
your own wood.
Its fence adjusts in a flash and locks into T-slotted mini-tracks with
the quick twist of two knobs.
A mini-track built into the fence makes for lightening-fast and solid
positioning of homemade feather boards and a bit guard. Insert-plate
levelers ensure a perfectly aligned tabletop.
It's easily portable, weighing only 36 pounds (without router), and you
can grip the the tabletop edges for comfortable carrying. To provide you
with a clear picture of what you'll receive when you purchase one of our
shop-built downloadable plans, we've provided a brief summary of all the
elements that this electronic plan includes:
1. Professional color photography of the finished product taken after we've
finished building the project ourselves in the WOOD(r) magazine shop. You
can even zoom in on the screen to see those little details.
2. For a clear idea of how our projects go together, we provide an
exploded-view drawing with helpful details. All drawings are done
professionally by our own staff off woodworkers/illustrators.
3. Large color photos and step-by-step instructions show exactly how we
built the project in the WOOD(r) magazine shop. We build each project
ourselves to work out any bugs before you ever get the plan.
4. Detail drawings and step-by-step illustrations provide necessary
dimensions and machining processes you'll need to make the building process
as straightforward as possible.
5. For error free construction, each plan includes a bill of materials; a
cutting diagram; a detailed supplies listing; and, when necessary, a
mail-order buying guide for hard-to-find hardware.
6. Parts-view drawings are used to dimension individual pieces to guarantee
your building success.

Bill Hylton's Ultimate Guide to the Router Table
by Bill Hylton (Author)
Book description
The router table opens up a whole new world of using the router that simply
can't be done using it freehand. Ultimate Guide to the Router Table starts
by giving the reader the option of building their own router table (with
plans) or buying a manufactured table (with suggestions on what to look for
when buying). In either case, this book gives the woodworker all the
information they need to use their router table. Basic router-table
knowledge is covered in the first chapter: safety issues, setup
fundamentals, feed direction and workpiece control. The next chapters cover
specific operations unique to the router table. The woodworker is not only
how to do an operation, but why to do it in the way explained (and the
pitfalls of trying to do it another way). Sidebars and tip boxes will
highlight appropriate router bit choices, details on how to construct jigs
that can be used in conjunction with the router table and other essential
information. Illustrations and close-up photos show procedures clearly. *A
router is mounted under a table with the business end of the router
protruding up through a hole in the table. This enables the user to perform
tasks that can't be done with the router hand held. Operations such as edge
profiling, making mouldings, cutting lock-miter joints, box joints, rabbets,
grooves, splined miters, using templates, pin routing and more can be done
using a router table

How to Build a Pipe Bending Machine
by Vincent R. Gingery
Book description
Bending a piece of pipe is often easy enough, but the real challenge is in
bending it to a nice even radius without kinking or flattening it at the
bend. To achieve consistent and professional results you need a pipe bending
machine and that is what this book is about. Here you will get step-by-step
instruction showing how to construct a very simple machine capable of
bending a radius in pipe to any desired angle of from 0 to 180 degrees. And
with the proper dies, solid round rod, flat bar, and square tubing can be
formed as well. The frame of the machine is build entirely from easy to
find, 1/4” x 2” h.r.s. flat bar. Other things you will need are a welder to
assemble the frame, a few common hand tools, a drill press, jig saw and a
few nuts and bolts that are easily found at the hardware store. You will
discover how easy it is to construct bending dies made of hardwood. And you
will be amazed to see how well they perform. Dies can be made to bend any
size pipe you might want up to the 1” diameter capacity of the machine. Need
a larger capacity? Consider scaling up the design and building the machine
from heavier material. Build a pipe bender today and discover what a little
leverage and a couple of bending dies can do for you. It’s a simple design
and an easy project to build. The end result is a compact, attractive
machine that mounts nicely at the end of your work bench.

Popular Mechanics Workshop Band Saw Fundamentals
(Popular Mechanics Workshop) by Rick Peters
(Author)
Book description
I've used bandsaws in my youth but just recently purchased a 19 inch General
Bandsaw and wanted a good reference book. I reviewed several titles and was
dissapointed after purchasing books reviewers described as "must have".
Several books I read had missing text and poor organization with antiquated
information. I was advised by a friend to purchase the Popular Mechanics
Workshop series, and did. This is a very well written book describing the
pros and cons of different machines, purchasing guidelines, machine set-up,
maintenance & tuning, blade selection guidelines, educational projects to
build your expertise and jigs to enhance your machine. All-in-all a very
good book with only a few editing errors, unlike some other band saw books
I've read. I liked this book so much I purchased the miter saw and table saw
books.

Router Joinery by Gary
Rogowski (Author)
Book description
I've looked around for a good book that explains how to make joints with a
router. The others I've seen do not explain the whys and hows as well as
this book does. There are pictures and very good drawings. One of the things
I like most about this book is that it explains clearly the mechanics of
jointery; why should you choose this joint for this application and the
strengths and weaknesses. It explains about how wood expands and contracts

Taunton's Complete Illustrated Guide to Jigs &
Fixtures (Complete Illustrated Guides) by Sandor
Nagyszalanczy (Author)
Book description
This book, in the 'Complete Illustrated Guide” format covers jigs and
fixtures, a subject of perennial interest to woodworkers. Jigs are like
clamps. As the saying goes, 'You can never have enough of them.” Jigs,
simply put, are devices, sometimes shop-made but now often available
commercially to enable woodworkers to do something more than once. For
example, some jigs are fences that ensure straight cuts or templates capable
of guiding tools to create a certain shape time after time. Woodworkers love
jigs and fixtures for the same reason they are drawn to
woodworking–designing them is about figuring out how to do something. All
woodworkers are secretly engineers and inventors, and jig design and
construction is a way to indulge that need. Some woodworkers love jig-making
so much, they never build anything but. Simple or elaborate, jigs are an
essential part of woodworking. This book, authored by prominent woodworking
author, Sandor Nagyszalanczy, is organized like his successful 1994 book
Workshop Jigs and Fixtures, according to function. This approach allows
woodworkers to either build the jig exactly as shown or modify it to suit a
wide variety of purposes. (Another thing woodworkers like is having
choices.)

The Bandsaw Book by
Lonnie Bird (Author)
Book description
The bandsaw is one of the most widely used woodworking tools, found in 3 out
4 home and professional workshops. Although deceptively simple - a steel
blade rotating around two rubber-clad wheels, the bandsaw does its best work
when it's tuned properly. Unfortunately, most owner's manuals provided by
tool manufacturers are difficult to understand, and the drawings and photos
are unclear. In this book, professional woodworker Lonnie Bird gives all the
information bandsaw owners wished came in the owner's manual plus much more
- what to look for when buying a bandsaw and how to tune it up for optimal
performance. The information is presented in an accessible,
easy-to-understand way, making this a quick reference as well as
comprehensive handbook. All the information is up-to-date and thoroughly
researched. Excellent color photos by the author and a clean, friendly
layout gives this book on a classic woodworking subject a fresh modern look.
This clearly illustrated and photographed volume will quickly become the
standard reference and is a must-have title for any woodworker

The Router Table Book by
Ernie Conover (Author)
Book description
I am rather disappointed by this book. The information provided is quite
rudimentary. Much of the book is dedicated to the building of a router table
(a particular design). So if you are looking to buy a commericial table,
don't expect to find any help here. In the routers sections, it fails to
actually recommend particular routers that are good for router table use -
by writing just in general terms instead of citing specific routers
manufacturers. The book lacks in going in depth on the various techniques on
using the router table.
